National Parks – Croatia

In That Respect are 8 declared national parks in Croatia, that is areas of extreme natural characters, which embraces one or more well-kept or by human usage bit modified ecosystems. Exclusive traditional agriculture and tourist-recreational activities are allowed.

Location of national parks in Croatia clearly shows its natural diverseness. So three parks are pronouncedly mountain – Risnjak, Paklenica, Northern Velebit, 3 are of island type – Kornati, Mljet, Brijuni, and 2 are clear model of rich karst hydrographic – Plitvicka jezera (Lakes of Plitvice) and Krka.

Croatia stretches from the foothills of the Julian Alps in the northwest and the Pannonian Plain in the eastside, all over the Dinara range of mountains in its center part, to the Adriatic seacoast in the south.

Located nearby Sibnik and on the Krka River you will find the Krka National Park. It owns many beautiful waterfalls several of which feature naturally pure waters to swim around in. You will view a background of rugged limestone mountains and glimpse the numerous islands archipelagos of the Adriatic Sea. Whatsoever age you are it is a great spot for a family to spend some quality time together.

Plitvice Waterfalls

Alternatively, the beauty of the Plitvice lakes National Park lies in its 16 lakes which are inter-connected by a variety of waterfalls. These falls are set in deep woodland which is habitation to a diversity of wildlife, including uncommon bird species, bears, wolves, and deer.

Another National Park in Croatia is the Brijuni islands which were proclaimed as a national park over twenty years ago. There are a total of islands which make the park, the largest being the Veliki and Mali Brijuni. The islands are a haven of unspoilt nature pockets which create a natural base to a safari park and a zoo. There are also traces of ancient Neolithic habitation have been detected on the island but one of the grandest archeological sites here is the pre-historic settlement on Gradina hill.
