New Orleans is such a diverse and interesting city, you will never run out of things to do. If you want an itinerary for the a visit during the festivals, you probably won’t need one as there will be something to do every time you step out side the hotel! But if you are visiting when a festival is not on, try some of these suggested itineraries New Orleans:

1-3 Days New Orleans suggested itineraries

One of the best things to do in New Orleans is try out the local food! So eat breakfast at Café du Monde and sample the famous beignet donuts and café au lait, then go shopping in the nearby French Market (this is a staple of most suggested New Orleans itineraries!). Take the garden district and cemetery walking tour. The Garden district is a series of beautiful old houses built in the 1800’s. On the way, check out the spooky and historically significant Lafayette cemetery. Back in the French Quarter, for lunch try any of the fabulous dining establishments. You might want to get a famous Louisiana Po-Boy sandwich at the Red Fish Grill on Bourbon Street, then wander around the French Quarter shops for a few hours. Eat a traditional praline for desert at one of the local candy shops. For dinner, choose a Cajun or Creole restaurant, like Galatoire"s or Antoine"s for some famous Louisiana signature dishes. After dinner wander Bourbon Street, have a few hurricane cocktails and pass from bar to bar catching live music along the way.

No New Orleans itineraries are complete without one day for brunch at the famous Brennan’s. However, make sure to get reservations, as it can be ridiculously crowded. But you won’t be disappointed, it’s some of the best food on the planet served in older southern ambiance, an experience unlike any other. Next, go shopping and explore more of the French Quarter. Try a visit to the Cabildo museum and shop in the cute boutiques, you might even find a Voodoo shop! For dinner, book a riverboat jazz cruise on the Mississippi.

Go on a plantation and swamp tour. This is a half day excursion, well worth the trip and on most suggested itineraries New Orleans offers. In the evening you might want to find a quiet piano bar for dinner and drinks.

4-6 Days New Orleans suggested itineraries

Check out Preservation Hall in the French Quarter and listen to some great jazz music. Try some of the great shopping Louisiana offers at the Riverwalk Mall, a few blocks from the French Quarter. For an evening of fun try out Harrah’s or one of the many other casinos in New Orleans.

Relax at a New Orleans spa, then go hang out in Jackson Square to watch the street jugglers and performers. Take pictures in front of the cathedral. Try out one of the local pubs like the famous Jean Lafitte’s Old Absinthe bar. Try some delicious seafood for dinner at the popular GW Fins. One last stroll on around Bourbon Street to catch the exciting nightlife.
