Alexandria Louisiana

Alexandria Louisiana offers a taste of the South, with some bayou flavor mixed in. This diverse city in the center of state offers a wide array of experiences, as well as a modern airport, numerous hotels, and excellent restaurants.

Like Shreveport and Bossier City, Alexandria Louisiana has a sister city just across the river. Pineville may be smaller, but it has its share of interesting places to explore. When the weather is warm, which is often in Louisiana, Buhlow Lake is draw for anglers and boaters. When Independence Day is close, residents and visitors come together for one of Pineville's best attended events—Fireworks over Buhlow, held every July 3. Kees Park, which has recently been upgraded and enhanced, is a fine place for a picnic and is a great place to let the kids burn off some energy and play. If you want to look into the history of Pineville, consider making a trip to the Pineville Old Town Hall Museum.

Back across the river, you'll find a wide array of Alexandria attractions, suited for all ages and interests. No matter what you think is essential for your vacations, you'll find places to make memories. Active sorts will dig the outdoor recreational opportunities, while curious folks will enjoy museum tours. There's also a thriving nightlight and shopping scene on the list of things to do in Alexandria Louisiana.

On 33 lush acres, you'll find the chance to take a walk on the wild side. The Alexandria Louisiana zoo is one of the most visited places in town. As you amble through, you'll have the chance to see majestic lions, playful squirrel monkeys, and a menagerie of other creatures large and small. With a stroll through the Louisiana Habitat, you can peek into the swamp and learn more about this unique state. Bayou creatures, including alligators, black bears, and otters have a home in these natural-habitat exhibits. Other exhibits bring the savannahs of Africa and the rainforests of South America to Alexandria Louisiana.

Museums are other options when you're looking for things to do in Alexandria Louisiana. The Delta Music Museum celebrates the musicians who shaped the sound of the south from Memphis to New Orleans, while the Alexandria Museum of Art focuses on the visual arts created by southern artists. It also holds a collection of world art, ranging in time period from antiquity up to the present day. At the Louisiana History Museum, you can learn about life on the frontier, the Civil War, and cultural factors that created the state we have today.

Young visitors will enjoy their time at T.R.E.E. House. This children's museum sparks imaginations with a playful learning environment and interactive exhibits. This museum and many of the other Alexandria attractions are located in downtown, making it easy to visit more than one in an afternoon. You'll also find plenty of restaurants and boutiques here, too.

Another of the great things to do in Alexandria Louisiana is the Kisatchie National Forest. More than 600,000 acres throughout central Louisiana beckon you to explore the great outdoors. You'll find hiking trails, campsites, and many others nestled in some of the most beautiful and unspoiled slice of the outdoors you'll ever see. The site is also a popular place for horseback riding and wildlife watching.

Beyond the forest, you'll have the chance to take swamp tours and fish the Red River. The Kisatchie Bayou and Ouiska Chitta River are popular places for canoeing.

Whatever Alexandria attractions you've enjoyed during the day, you'll need a place to unwind once the sun has set. There are plenty of places to enjoy Cajun and Creole cuisine, and a wide array of Alexandria hotels will provide a comfortable place to rest up for a whole new day of fun.
